Basic Braids

You can find a tutorial on how to do a basic braid or three strand braid almost anywhere. Fishtails, and twists are also very simple and easy to find. They are the major braids that go into building other styles and you need to know how to make them, but I will not be going in depth on them.

French Braid

I will start a step up from there, still beginner and easy to do. The french braid.

Difficulty level: Easy

Hair length: Short - Long

Step 1: Take a section of hair from the crown of your head where you want the braid to start and split it into 3 sections.

Step 2: Make the first stitch of a basic braid.

Step 3: Add hair to the top strand and cross over center section and bring other side on top then add hair.

Step 4: Repeat placing the added hair on top every time.

Step 5: End with a basic braid. Secure with elastic.

Dutch Braid

Step 1: Take a section of hair from the crown of your head where you want the braid to start and split it into 3 sections.

Step 2: Make the first stitch of a basic braid under instead of over.

Step 3: Add hair to the bottom strand and cross under center section and bring other side under then add hair.

Step 4: Repeat placing the added hair under every time.

Step 5: End with a basic braid. Secure with elastic.

Rope Twist

Difficulty level: Easy
Hair length: Medium - Long

Step 1: Split the hair into 2 sections.
Step 2: Twist both sections the same way. You can twist either way in the picture below I twisted them to the left.
Step 3: Twist the twists together the opposite way you twisted the 2 sections. in the picture above since I twisted the sections to the left I then twisted them together to the right.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you run out of hair. Remember to continue to twist the same way you started for the 2 sections and the opposite when you twist the sections together. Secure with and elastic.
